ArtHouse Jersey is proud to present a unique gallery installation of Orbits, a groundbreaking dance film created by Scotland's leading disabled theatre company, Birds of Paradise. The installation will be on display at ArtHouse Jersey's Capital House from Thursday 3rd April to Sunday 13th April 2025, with free entry between 12:00 and 18:00, Tuesday to Sunday.
Orbits is a visually striking dance film featuring the incredible Portuguese disabled dancer Diana Niepce. It explores the themes of loss, absence, and the emotional fragmentation that can occur when we lose a significant relationship in our lives. Through an evocative soundtrack by Scottish composer Scott Twynholm and choreographed by Rachel Drazek, the film offers a meditative reflection on how we experience ourselves and our connection to others after such loss.
This work is an embodiment of Birds of Paradise's vision to showcase the excellence of disabled artists and to celebrate the powerful stories they bring to the stage. With no spoken dialogue, Orbits plays on a continuous loop throughout the gallery’s opening hours and includes an audio description version to ensure accessibility for blind or visually impaired visitors.
Birds of Paradise, a company with 30 years of experience, is renowned for challenging the status quo in theatre and film. They have been trailblazing opportunities for disabled artists and promoting their work globally, advocating for the inclusion of disabled people in the arts.
