Lindy Hop Jersey Welcomes Cheltenham Swing Dance Teachers for Workshops and Social Dance

June 14, 2024

Lindy Hop Jersey is excited to announce a fantastic day filled with workshops and an exhilarating evening social dance featuring special guest instructors Matt and Jane from Cheltenham Swing Dance. Renowned for leading the vibrant swing dance scene in Cheltenham, Matt and Jane bring their passion, expertise, and infectious energy to Jersey, promising an unforgettable experience for all participants.

Matt and Jane say, "We've been fortunate to attend numerous Lindy training camps, gathering valuable tips, techniques, and teaching methods that we bring to our scene. We like to share these insights with as many dancers as possible, hoping to spread our passion and help everyone fall in love with Lindy Hop!"

They firmly believe that swing dancing is incredibly fun, and even small improvements in fundamental technique can exponentially increase the joy and freedom experienced on the dance floor.

An emphasis on leading and following ensures that dancers can lead and follow these moves easily in social dance settings. A favourite lesson centers around moves in the Charleston family, the ones that add the "hop" to Lindy Hop. They believe that familiarity with Charleston is essential for anyone who wants to be a Lindy Hopper.

Daniel Thomas from Lindy Hop said: “Matt and Jane really impressed people when they came out dancing in Jersey a few years ago. We've heard that they are great teachers, so we're really excited that they're coming back, and looking forward to their classes!”

The workshops and evening dance will take place at St. Brelade's Church Hall on Saturday 3rd August. The workshops will run from 10:30 - 16:00 (we think Matt and Jane need to learn some local customs while they're here, so we've allowed time for a lunchtime swim!). The evening dance will run from 19:30 - 22:30.
