UK Dance Company Engages Jersey Primary Students in Unique Choreography Workshops

October 1, 2024

Casson and Friends, a renowned UK-based dance theatre company, recently visited several primary schools in Jersey, including Grands Vaux, Rouge Bouillon, D'Auvergne, and Springfield. Invited by ArtHouse Jersey, the company introduced students aged 3 - 11 to its distinct approach to choreography, encouraging them to use movement to create original dance routines.

At Springfield Primary School, Tim Casson, the company's director, described the creative process: "We came here with no dance moves, but we have to have a performance at the end of the day, so we have been working with the children to create some moves with them that we're going to perform back to them at the end of the day."

"The lovely thing is all the children have different ideas. One child might have a sea that goes side to side or it might be a massive waves so there is so many ways the young people can interpret the sea. It demonstrates their creativity, we’re just here to collect it."

ArtHouse Jersey’s producer, Robyn Cabaret, expressed excitement over the collaboration, highlighting the significance of bringing diverse age groups together through dance. "I think there’s something in this unity of all the different pupils coming together in something that is so unique just for them," Cabaret said.

This initiative underscores the importance of creativity and collaborative learning in education, providing Jersey students with memorable and inspiring artistic experiences.
